Awarding this book
5 stars Michael O'Connor wrote - "All in all, Smith's book is an
authorative, well-illustrated introduction to this most deadly of dive-bombers.
Highly recommended." Kelly Jamison also rated it a 5-star volume, stating
that - "Classic Publications could not have picked a better champion for
this subject than Peter C. Smith. His study of dive-bombers and the Stuka in
particular are legendary..." A third 5-star rating came from Boris
Kondratieff who stated the author had done, " an outstanding job..."

Writing on Amazon J. P. Mcneill said:- “I found the book to be a comprehensive source of information on this remarkable plane, and very useful to model-makers like myself.” B. Schenk on the same site wrote:- “Luftwaffe Colours at it’s best! Excellent and comprehensive text which comprises technical and tactical aspects but also wartime accounts of combat. Smith critically analyses some myths about the Stuka and gives a new evaluation of one of the most important aircraft of WW II” L B Lewis, commenting on both volumes, said:- “….I pretty much knew what I was buying, but I was surprised to find more than I had expected. The author is extremely knowledgeable on the Stuka topic, and in this and the 2nd volume, exposes quite well the success of the Stuka, the aircraft and dive-bomber, from the beginning to the end of the war, debunking the propaganda that the Stuka was an obsolete airplane in the last years of the war, and proving ample evidence supporting his claims, as well as exposing for instance, the shortcomings of the Allied attempts, such as the British Skua. The book was quite an enjoyable reading – occasionally the titles in this series can be a bit dry, and this wasn’t the case – it turned out to be an excellent read, very well documented, and it managed to change some of the views and preconceptions I had on the topic. If you’re going to buy this, do yourself a favour and buy the 2nd volume as well, you won’t be able to put the first book down until you finish reading it, and once you do finish reading it, you’ll want to have the 2nd volume at hand to continue where you were left in Volume 1. Once you finish both volumes, you’ll be searching for more titles by Peter C. Smith. Highly recommended, even for those who don’t usually buy titles from the Luftwaffe Colours series.”
