STUKA SQUADRON.
H/B 1990 (ISBN 1 85260 286 4)
The incredible story of the Stukagruppen 77, known as "The Luftwaffe's Fire Brigade". Formed with the Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber pre-war, and moulded by the father of the dive bomber, this crack unit took part in the defeat of Poland, the invasion of France and the Battle of Britain. In 1941 they served in the easy victories over Yugoslavia and Greece and at Crete before being switched to the eastern front. From June 1941 until the last day of the war they served with great distinction from the victories at the Crimea, and the long retreat back to Germany itself.
Told from diaries and official records and illustrated with rare photos from the archives of the unit itself to make a stirring and revealing record of the Stuka war. From the recruitment of the young volunteers, through their training and then on to combat operations the photographic coverage from the units official cameraman is comprehensive with many revealing facets of what life was like in a crack Luftwaffe unit in peace and war.
Dr Alfred Price recommended it in the unit history section of his Luftwaffe Handbook as "..very well researched and illustrated."
