The famous Avro
Lancaster four-engined heavy bomber was developed from the failed Manchester, and quickly
established herself as the mainstay of RAF Bomber Command. A
strongly-constructed aircraft, she enjoyed the capacity to haul heavier and
heavier weights of ordnance of all types, including many special weapons, into
the heart of Nazi Germany.
Built in large numbers,
this versatile and rugged aircraft became well-known for a whole range of
exploits, including the epic Dam Busters mission, the raid on Peenemunde
rocket-development centre and the finishing-off of the German battleships Tirpitz
and Lutzow . The Lancaster
also increasingly shouldered the burden of the night-time Area Bombing attacks,
pressed home continuously, despite heavy casualties. She took the war to Berlin and beyond. As
such, the Lancaster became the symbol of Great Britain's
determination to hit back and win the war.
Profusely illustrated
with a whole range of photographs which illustrate the many marks and variants
of this aircraft, Avro Lancaster is a storehouse of information, a
pictorial record and a moving tribute to one of the really great aircraft of
World War II.
Just bombers "Davie" wrote a 5-star review of the book, stating that it was,

Lover this is a book for you. I have many and this was a good addition." Duncurin

is a highly readable account of how this magnificent aircraft was created and
honed into a vital instrument of war. The information and detail it contains is
nicely balanced by a succinct and efficient writing style that at all times
describes accurately yet never seeks to moralise.”
