London's Bridge
London is built upon the great river Thames and the river gives it not only its character but also a moving, vibrant heart so lacking in other, smaller and duller, cities. The city exists becase of its crossings and, as London has grown and spread ever further, so those crossings have multiplied. Her bridges give the capital some of her most beautiful structures and their histories are as diverse as they designs.
Twenty-one bridges covered in this volume are covered in this volume - London, Putney, Westminster, Kew, Blackfriars, Battersea, Richmond, Vauxhall, Waterloo, Southwark, Hammersmith, Wandsworth, Lambet, Chelsea, Albert, Chiswick, Twickenham, Hampton Court, Kingston, Hungerford and Tower. Each of them is unique and has its own fascinating story to tell.
